ALIQUID Lacquer Puppy Love LE for Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!

Hi folks! That's right, I've got some more new ALIQUID Lacquer for ya!

This time it's a very special limited edition that will only be for sale during October. It celebrates Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, which of course Trudy and I are big supporters of! Right, Trudy?

I'll take that as a yes.

So, the polish! It's called Puppy Love and has a bright teal base with pink and gold flecks and a holo sparkle!

The polish sells for $11, and $5 from each purchase will go to the ASPCA. Donations to the ASPCA help with a lot of great causes, including:
  • Grants to shelters nationwide
  • Spay/neuter and microchipping programs
  • Adoption, fostering and relocation programs
  • Investigation and seizure of abused animals
  • Lobbying for anti-cruelty legislation

Did you know that 3.9 million dogs enter shelters in the U.S. every year, and about a third of them are euthanized? There's a belief out there that shelter dogs will always have some sort of behavioral problem that makes them an undesirable pet, but that just isn't true. NO dog is perfect, and EVERY dog can improve! Plus, if you adopt an adult dog you know exactly what you're getting!

When we adopted Trudy, we loved her right from the start. She is so cuddly and affectionate, not to mention really smart! (Bad at playing catch though.) She loves to run and play, but is also great at power napping if we're busy. As a pit bull mix, she didn't have a great chance at being adopted because of the stigma against pit bulls in this country. At least 800,000 pit-bull-type dogs are euthanized every year in the U.S. Luckily we haven't had to overcome too much prejudice; the only difficulty was finding an insurance company that will insure an apartment with a pit bull (go State Farm!).

In terms of behavior, Trudy does show signs of dog aggression, which was a bred-for trait in pit bulls originally (they were, and sadly still are, fighting dogs!). But she has never shown any signs of aggression toward people, even in scary situations like the vet or groomer. She will bark at people if she's afraid, but generally a calm demeanor (and maybe a treat!) will relax her pretty quickly. We have no idea what her life was like before we adopted her, only that she was left to wander around on the street with no ID. I like to think that she's much happier now!

It's important to remember once again that every dog has its good points and bad points--just like people!--and to learn how to deal with them. If you're interested in adopting a dog, you can start reading here. Just be sure that you can afford the time, money, and emotional investment to care for it for the rest of its life! If you're not sure you can, consider volunteering at a shelter or as a foster owner instead. And don't forget to spay/neuter! Puppies are awesome, but more puppies = more dogs in shelters. :-(

Thanks for reading my spiel! I'm aiming to sell at least 50 bottles of Puppy Love this month--that's $250 for the ASPCA! It would be awesome if you could help out!

Two swatches and vacation update!

(Today is the last day to enter my Petoskey Stone giveaway!! The link is in the sidebar!)

Hi everyone! Hope you've had a great week since I talked to you last! We've had a great time on vacation so far! First, though, I of course want to show you what I wore on my nails this week...

I'm happy I cut my nails short, because my manis have lasted a lot longer than usual! I've only worn two polishes since my last post. The first is Literary Lacquers As the Waltz Was Ending, a lovely warm lavender with a soft linear holo effect:

Literary Lacquers As the Waltz Was Ending. Two coats with Out the Door topcoat.

I think I would put this shade in the Radiant Orchid family (it's a little warmer than it looks here). I found the formula a little patchy, even on the second coat, so if you have longer nails you might need three coats.

Right now I'm wearing Maya Cosmetics Beach Baby. Sadly, Maya Cosmetics is no longer around (I bought this polish in their going-out-of-business sale) but you might be able to snag a second-hand bottle somewhere! This is a full-coverage microglitter in shades of copper, bronze, brown, orange and pink--it really makes me think of people lying around on the beach getting tan!

Maya Cosmetics Beach Baby. One coat with Out the Door topcoat.

This polish covered in one perfect coat! I would actually classify this as a textured polish; even with topcoat it feels gritty. It would look great without topcoat too.

OK, on to my exciting personal life! Mr. ALIQUID and I started our vacation at his parents' place, where we got to see my absolute favorite band of all time, Barenaked Ladies!! (Yes, they are still around!) It was a concert in a park, and we got there early enough to grab a spot in the second row! I was basically going nuts, and my husband was nice enough to humor me...

Next we visited my sister-in-law in New York City. Highlights included walking across the Brooklyn Bridge...

...and having some amazing fried chicken at Root and Bone in Manhattan. Highly recommended!

Then we had a very boring drive to Michigan to see my family. Right now we're getting ready for our trip up north! So keep an eye on my Instagram for some more pics!

Here's Max, one of my parents' dogs, looking cute!

FingerFood's Theme Buffet #8: Cute

Hey all! I can't believe we're eight weeks into FingerFood's Theme Buffet challenge already! Where did the time go??

This week's theme is "cute", and as everyone knows, the cutest thing in the universe is a pile of puppies. So here's my doggie manicure!

Hee hee, this makes me smile every time I look at it! I like how the dog on the far right looks kind of skeptical. I started with a base of Zoya Sweet, then added the dog heads, spots and ears with Revlon Stiletto, Sinful Colors Snow Me White, Revlon Stormy Night, Julep Otte and Sephora by OPI Leotard Optional. I added a layer of Revlon Matte topcoat and did the eyes and noses afterwards so they kept a little shine.

I asked Trudy if she approved of my mani, but she was still recovering from her busy day yesterday (busy =  going for a walk):

Pics from Christmas vacation

Hi folks! I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas yesterday! I got some nice presents (like a picture frame with some beautiful prints from our wedding) and ate way too much food.

My sister let me do her holiday nails--Essie Good as Gold with Essie Blanc polka dots. I didn't have my dotting tools, so I just used a bobby pin:

I miss my puppy Trudy, but meanwhile I get to play with my parents' dogs. Here's Sydney, the alpha dog of the pack:

And this is Max, who is much more gentle and laid back:

Can you tell neither of them like getting their picture taken?

Take it easy everyone! Stay warm!

Trudy picspam

You may be wondering why my Google+ picture seems to be a giant mouth with ears. That is, in fact, my dog, Trudy. She's a three-year-old pit bull mix. We adopted her from a local shelter almost two years ago.

Her hobbies include chilling on the couch...

...standing in water...

...rubbing herself on the grass...

 ...looking cute at mealtime...

...and displaying her goods for all the world to see.

Trudy is shy of strangers, but very loving. If I'm on the couch, she has to be in my lap; she sleeps under the covers with me every night.

Pit bulls are probably the most misunderstood dog breed in the world. To learn more, visit stubbydog.org. Trudy says thanks...er...
