May's Gimme That Polish!

Whoa, can you believe it's June already? 2015 is almost half over, you guys. Although I will be happy when the days start getting shorter again, since right now the sun wakes us up at around 5:30!

Anyway, today I've got my top lemmings from last month (visit my Pinterest board to see the rest). As always, be sure to go read the original reviews for more info!

1. Dance Legend - Map of Scars

Have you seen these weird new textured polishes that Dance Legend has come up with? I feel like they completely slipped under the radar, but I think they're super interesting! When they dry they develop this wrinkled pattern. I really want to see this in real life! (Dance Legend shop | swatch by Marine Loves Polish)

2. Powder Perfect - Borders of the Forest

This one has a lot going on, but it's still very moody and toned-down. Definitely makes me think of a haunted forest! (Powder Perfect shop | swatch by The Nail Polish Project)

3. Femme Fatale - Lantern Waste

OK, I'll be honest, I could NOT pick a favorite from the White Witch collection. So you're going to have to go look at all of them! Femme Fatale has been hitting it out of the park this year--great combos of textures that you wouldn't expect together, and some very magical colors. (Femme Fatale shop | swatch by Very Emily)

4. Lacquer Lust - Son of a Beachin' Unicorn

Love this unexpected combo--delicate holo fairy dust then WHAM! neon glitter. Clever and fun. (Lacquer Lust shop | swatch by Very Emily)

5. Reverie Nail Lacquer - Berry Sorbet

Another happy glitter mix from Reverie! This really screams summer to me, even without any neon. (Reverie Nail Lacquer shop | swatch by The Mercurial Magpie)

Honorable mention: Dollish Polish - You Are a Product of Fear

More pics from vacation

Happy New Year everyone!! 2014 sure went by quickly, didn't it?

We got back from our long trip yesterday after driving 5.5 hours through the big storm that was all over the eastern U.S. Now it's time to get back to life (and start eating better again!), but first I'll show you some more manis I wore over the holidays, and a couple other photos!

This was what I wore on Christmas: Happy Hands Metal Heart.

Then for my 10-year high school reunion, I wore Powder Perfect Maneater with an accent of Indigo Bananas Moonlight:

You can't see it in the sun, but Maneater actually has a lot of blue-green iridescent glitter, so I took another pic that shows it better:

Finally, I have a few photos from our visit to the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit. I used to go there for field trips all the time, but I hadn't been back in many years. As you might guess, the museum mainly focuses on the history of technology, especially cars, trains and planes, but they have a lot of other exhibits too, such as the chair Abraham Lincoln was shot in. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Here's the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile:

Rosa Parks' bus:

FDR's presidential limo (they also have JFK's limo, which was actually used by other presidents after JFK was assassinated in it. Kinda morbid, don't you think?):

One of their special exhibits was a Lego display with some models of Detroit skyscrapers:

I'll be back soon with a roundup of some of my favorite manis from 2014!

Swatch: Powder Perfect Grief

The product in this post was purchased by me. All opinions are my own.

Happy Friday! Did you have a good week? Mine was pretty good, other than the constant precipitation we've had here! At least we don't have a foot of snow like some places yet!

Today I've got a swatch that my fellow blue polish lovers will enjoy: Powder Perfect Grief. This is a denim blue scattered holo with hidden blue-green iridescent glitter that only pops out in certain lights! It's very understated but still fascinating to look at.

Powder Perfect Grief. Two coats with Out the Door topcoat.

The formula is good as long as you keep your coats thin. I noticed a tendency for the polish to drag with thicker coats. The opacity and dry time were good.

I don't see Grief on Powder Perfect's Australian shop site at the moment, but definitely check their international stockists!

Swatch: Powder Perfect Deceptively Sweet

The product in this post was purchased by me. All opinions are my own.

Good morning! I was so pumped to get my first ever bottles of Powder Perfect the other day! If you don't know the brand, Powder Perfect is an Australian indie who also happens to be a stockist for international brands--including ALIQUID Lacquer!! When I sent Jacinta some of my polishes to sell down under, she sent back some of hers for me!

Deceptively Sweet appeared in my Gimme That Polish! for June, so I was especially happy to get my hands on it! It has a warm lavender base (slightly warmer than it appears here) with gold shimmer. What makes this polish especially interesting is that I think the gold shimmer is actually purple with a gold flash, so you end up with a combo of muted purple and sparkly gold flecks. Check it out:

Powder Perfect Deceptively Sweet. Two coats with Out the Door topcoat.

Can you see the little purple flecks? (Click the picture to enlarge it if need be.) They give the polish a very subtle texture that makes it more interesting than just gold shimmer alone would. It's understated but very classy!

I was happy with the formula (on the thinner side), opacity and dry time. The polish dries with a slightly gritty texture that was smoothed out with topcoat. The only thing I wasn't totally in love with was the brush--it's somewhat mop-like, although not to the point of making application difficult.

You can buy Deceptively Sweet at Powder Perfect's shop if you're in Australia; they also have a list of stockists there for international folks! The shop is going on vacation for about month starting Sept. 15, so get your orders in soon!

June's Gimme That Polish!

One day I'll manage to do my Gimme That Polish post before the month is actually over! At any rate, here are my five favorite polishes of the ones I pinned to my wishlist last month. Check out the original blogger reviews and let me know your biggest lemmings in the comments!

1. Indigo Bananas Acid Ocean

Andrea of Indigo Bananas continues to be amazing with her new collection of jelly flakies. I love the way those toxic green flakies pop out of the murky blue base...it reminds me of a bioluminescent sea creature! (Indigo Bananas shop | swatch by The Mercurial Magpie)

2. KBShimmer Look High and Holo

I had to have at least one jelly glitterbomb this month! This one is super colorful and perfect for summer. Plus, come on, holo glitter! Yes please! (KBShimmer shop | swatch by Nail Polish Wars)

3. Glam Polish Rivendell

OK, not only is this a Lord of the Rings-themed polish AND a teal polish, but just look at those flecks! Flakes and flecks are probably my #1 favorite "thing to put in nail polish", so I'm all over this one. (Glam Polish shop | swatch by Accio Lacquer)

4. Powder Perfect Deceptively Sweet

This one's uncharacteristically girly for me, but I love the muted lilac base color, and the gold shimmer makes it special but still restrained. You definitely need to check out the full-size pics to appreciate this polish! (Powder Perfect shop | swatch by The Nail Polish Project)

5. Northern Star Polish Electric Lime

Mmm, this shade of green really hits the spot for me. The combo of the green with the various colors of glitter makes me think of tropical fruit! An awesome polish for summer. (Northern Star shop | swatch by The Mercurial Magpie)

April's Gimme That Polish!

Good morning! It's time once again for Gimme That Polish! (I realize I'm slightly late, but hey.) I'm going to show you the five polishes I lusted after most in April. This time they're all indies! You can see my entire wishlist on my Pinterest board. Check out the polishes below and make sure to give the original swatchers some love by visiting their review posts!

1. Cadillacquer - Survivor

Both I and Debbie at The Crumpet are totally in love with this polish! Simply put, it's a purple lover's dream. (Cadillacquer shop | swatch by The Crumpet)

2. Contrary Polish - Strange Changes

I am just head-over-heels with this style of pale, sheer polish with amazing shimmer. I have a zillion on my wishlist and I'm even planning to make one for an upcoming collection! I love how ethereal this one looks. (Contrary Polish shop | swatch by Vampy Varnish)

3. Delush Polish - Medusa's Verde

Delush Polish's spring collection has been all over the blogosphere lately. Since I'm a glitter crelly fan, I like them all, but this one's my favorite. I think it's the combo of pale green with metallic glitter that gets me! (Delush Polish shop | swatch by Let Them Have Polish)

4. Maya Cosmetics - Beach Baby

Not only do I love glitter crellies, I'm also a sucker for well-executed microglitter bombs. This one is actually reminiscent of a polish in my own shop! I love the orange/pink tones in Beach Baby--doesn't it make you think of a beach at sunset? (Maya Cosmetics shop | swatch by Things I Love at the Moment)

5. Powder Perfect - Secret Passageway

Another fantastic glitter crelly! Love the warmth of the metallics against the cool grey backdrop. (Powder Perfect shop | swatch by Gnarly Gnails)

There you have it! What's your biggest lemming lately?
